I am based in Exeter.

Meet the team

Felicity Vivian – Drama Facilitator

I graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 in Theatre and Performance. After graduating I was in a theatre company; Spatial Rhino, where we worked on improvisation, movement and physical theatre. Before this, I studied a BTEC Performing Arts at Exeter College and during this time ran a successful after school drama club for school aged children.
I have presented radio shows on Bay FM and Hospital Radio Exeter and I have had some vocal studio sessions at Sound Gallery Studios.
I had my first child in 2011 and my second in 2013. I have devoted my time to the children and during this time read extensively on gentle and attachment parenting. I completed the Child Positive Discipline eCourse in March 2016 run by Attachment Parenting UK. I have also sung lead vocal in Higher and Higher, a St Thomas Gospel Choir performance (which was such an amazing experience!). I am also in local band Koali.

Drama Classes (with Sensory Experience) at The Studio bring together my skills in theatre, along with her knowledge in attachment theory to create empowering drama sessions for children to build confidence, resilience, emotional intelligence and self-esteem and well as lots of fun! I am so passionate about how drama can be used for development in children and how drama plays such a vital part in the development of life skills. It is a complete privilege to be part of your child’s journey and I hope you and your child have so much fun at the classes! Look forward to seeing you soon!

Drama with Sensory Experience Classes

Drama with Sensory Experience classes are offered for small children from 6 months – 18 months olds (split into movers and non movers), I incorporate storytelling with musical instruments (wooden percussion), lights, fabrics and more!

Drama classes are offered for children 18 months – 8 years (split into age-appropriate groups) and will draw on more active drama techniques; still with storytelling, role play and games where the children can really find their inner creativity!

The focus of the classes is to build confidence, self esteem, resilience, emotional intelligence and communication through drama techniques, role play, games and mindfulness whilst using Thrive techniques including doing, thinking and power & identity (more below). The storytelling within the classes will look at some key texts which explore emotions by giving emotions names and being able to vocalise those emotions as well as know that they are valid. Mostly though, we want to have fun and enjoy working as a team through drama.

Thrive Approach

Doing (6-18 months) stage of development (relational/emotional), the key foci are: exploring safely; knowing body limits; experiencing doing and learning about options. The adult takes the role of co-adventurer.

Thinking (19 months-3 years) stage of development (cognitive), the key foci are: thinking about feelings; problem solving; learning about cause and effect and expressing a view. The adult takes the role of co-constructor of meaning.

Power and Identity (4-7 years) (understanding self and others) Key foci: developing a positive sense of self and understanding self and others. developing a positive sense of themselves and establishing an individual identity. The adult takes the role of supporter and affirmation to the child for completing developmental tasks.

Skills and Structure (7-11 years) (learn about their own way of doing things and others, develop new skills) Key foci: The child or young person takes pleasure in thinking about different ways of doing things and acquiring new skills. They take pleasure in difference, and are curious about new and different experiences. They enjoy having appropriate responsibilities and understand the need for rules and regulations. Exploration and thought are being given to the values that underpin rules. They identify strongly with peers of the same gender as themselves.

Our values

We are an inclusive group. I aim to facilitate drama with sensory experience groups underpinned by emotional intelligence. Every child is welcome and I provide a safe environment to explore drama. Through this, we aim to build confidence and self esteem within the children, and have lots of fun.
